Library
Each class will visit the library regularly for story time and checkout. Our Library Days are TBD. Your student will begin bringing 2 library books home starting in September. They are expected to return both library books the following week on our class library day. Please keep all library books in the large white drawstring bags that will be provided. If your child misplaces their baggie or it is damaged, please replace it a 2 gallon Ziploc bag as soon as possible.
Lunch
Please send money labeled with your child's name/purpose in a baggie, envelope, or in the plastic sleeve at the front of your child's Anchor Binder. I DO NOT CHECK BACKPACKS. The students are given four choices of meals each day, and they will be asked to choose first thing each morning. A lunch menu will be posted on the Round Rock ISD website as well. You are also welcome to monitor your child’s lunch account on the district website and deposit funds as necessary. If you plan on having lunch with your child, please notify me prior to 7:40 in order to reserve a meal. We ask that parents allow all children to become accustomed to our routines for the first two weeks before you begin to join your child for lunch.
Medication
I am not allowed to dispense any type of medication to students. Please see the school nurse if your child needs to take prescribed medication. Please notify the nurse of any health changes. If your child is asthmatic, please send all medications to the nurse’s office as well. Any cough drops must be placed in a Ziploc baggie labeled with your child’s first and last name and dropped off in the nurse’s office in the morning. Please remember that your child must be fever free (without Tylenol/Motrin) for 24 hours before he/she can return to school.
News
Please visit our Seesaw account often and for information about curriculum, events, etc.
Oh! Positive Reinforcements
The students will constantly receive verbal praise. Tangible reinforcements such as: Swag Tags, Paw Prints, stamps, etc. will also be distributed. Upon the receipt of the “Tiger Tickets” and/or “Paw Prints,” students may collect them and redeem them for prizes. We will also have a variety of individual and group prizes in the classroom.
Parent Walk-Up
If your child is a parent walk-up, we ask that you wait behind the orange cone with my name on it in the grassy area in front of the brick wall with the "1" on it. i ask that you make a single file line so the sign-out process can move quickly. When your child arrives in this designated area, you will need to sign your child out on their teacher's individual clipboard. We want to ensure and document that all of our little ones are leaving only with parents and approved guardians/care-givers. Please talk to your child about not running out of line until you have singed them out. Your child's safety is also our number one concern and we appreciate your partnership to make sure that all of our little ones are being accounted for and only leaving with you! Thank you!
Questions?
Please feel free to call, email, or send a note. Remember, please schedule a conference with me rather than stopping in to discuss your concerns before, during, or after school. A conference will provide one-on-one time to discuss and answer questions; before school or during dismissal is not an appropriate time for these discussions as our attention needs to be on our little ones.
Recess
We will have approximately twenty five minutes of recess daily. Please dress your child appropriately according to the weather. Our classrooms may be cool, we encourage you to pack a sweater for your child if he/she is cold-natured. First grade teachers are required to be outdoors for recess duty to help monitor the large amount of students.
Report Cards
Individual reading assessments will be conducted at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. I will discuss your child’s progress during parent conferences. Report cards will be sent at the end of every nine week period. You may also request a conference as needed.
Snacks / Treats
All teachers love for each student to have the opportunity to have a small snack during the day. If you could send a snack for your child daily, it would greatly be appreciated it. Snacks should be a food item (not candy) that can be eaten in less than 10 minutes. Snacks should be dry and healthy. Suggested acceptable snacks are: goldfish, cheese crackers, saltine crackers, graham crackers, pretzels, vanilla wafers, animal crackers, Cheerios, Kix, Teddy Grahams, Fig Newtons, carrots, apples(cut, not whole), grapes, and popcorn. We strongly encourage each child bring a labeled water bottle DAILY! Water will be the only beverage allowed in the classrooms.
Toys
Please have your child leave all toys at home, unless your child has earned a ticket for “bringing a stuffed animal to school” or “show and tell.” All toys will be confiscated to avoid being broken, lost, or accidentally taken. Toys will be returned at the end of the day or to the parent.
The Unexpected
Please prepare an extra change of clothes conducive to the weather to remain in your child’s backpack. Accidents do arise. The school nurse no longer provides a change of clothes and you will be called to pick your child up from school.
Parent Volunteers
We would love to involve parents in a variety of ways. If you can volunteer your time in any way, please sign up to work at school or home. Parents, family, and members of the community are always welcome at Teravista Elementary to volunteer in our library or Pro-Center.
We always welcome our Watch D.O.G.S. to help throughout the school day around the school, especially during all grade level recesses and lunch times. Please take the time to visit the Round Rock website to have a background check performed prior to volunteering with students. You must apply for a background check each school year and a Volunteer Application. This also applies for all field trips.
Wish List
All teachers will have a wish list posted on their website and outside their door during special events. If you can assist by providing any of the items on the list, please do so. It is always greatly appreciated any contributions you make to the classroom.
Parents and family members may eXit and enter via the main school entry. You will need to sign in at the front office and your will need your ID.
Your ideas and suggestions are welcomed as needed!
