Captain of the Week
Every Friday, we will choose a sailor from our classroom who has exhibited leadership both inside and outside of the classroom to be our Captain of the Week. This is a special time for the chosen student as we celebrate their leadership skills. Each Captain of the Week will have use of the Captain's Notebook and our classroom mascot, Nemo, for the week. Each Captain of the Week will write about their adventures with Nemo in the journal.
Here are the activities each Captain of the Week will be completing and adding to our leadership display!
1. Monday- Captain of the Week- Your child will complete the “All About Me” poster by filling in all of the things that make them the special person they are. We will hang this up for everyone to admire during the week in our hallway.
2. Tuesday- I am a Leader and I See a Leader in You- Your child will create draw and write about someone who they think is a great leader and why they think this person is such a great leader. This could be someone they know or someone famous or even someone they have learned about in school. It could even be a character in a book.
3. Wednesday- Let Your Goals Set Sail! - Design a sail boat anyway you would like. You can draw one or create one on a standard size piece of paper. Have your child write their goals for their school year. These goals can be personal, academic, or anything inside or outside of school. Talk with your child about what steps they can take to meet these goals. Please return these goals and your sail boat so that we can place these in your Leadership Notebook and track your progress.
4. Thursday- Let Your Light Shine- Please choose one of the 7 habits to teach our class about on Friday before you pass on the bag to our next Captain of the Week. You can share a story and/or pictures of you using one of the 7 habits. You can do this in the Captain's Notebook.
5. Friday- Encouraging the Leader in Me- Write a letter or note to your child about why they are such a great leader and why you are proud of them each and every day. Your child will be able to keep this letter in their cubby or pencil box to look at when they are at school and need that extra special “boost” from you, their hero, even when you’re not there! You can send this through email and I will print it out for your student or you can enclose it in an envelope in their folder.
6. Any day of the week –Take Nemo with you and your family on an outing, or something your family likes to do. Write about it in our Captain's Journal and add a real photograph (please let me know if you would like me to print it for you)! Please return all contents for the Captain of the Week on Friday!
***If you can visit for lunch that week, it would be a special treat for your child! We have lunch from 11:11 to 11:41 every day. I appreciate your help in making next week special! ***
